Scientists at the Chinese Academy of Sciences have successfully tested a prototype of a new engine that has accelerated to nine speeds. This is less than half of its potential. With this power plant, the aircraft will be able to fly at speeds of 16 swings, which will easily ascend into near space and reach any point on the planet in a matter of hours.
The technology is called Sodramjet - an abbreviation of direct-flow jet engine with an inclined shock wave. The advent of technology was the result of an attempt to solve one of the fundamental problems in the development of direct-flow jet engines, writes SCMP.
Chinese scientists led by Jiang Zhonglin decided to implement the idea proposed by NASA in the 1980s. Then the theory was not developed, leaving the concept stage. The designers were able to make the shock waves work in unison with the combustion chamber and push oxygen into it at hypersonic speeds. Details of the process are not disclosed, but according to media reports, "the faster the engine runs, the more efficiently the main hydrogen fuel is burned."
The new engine will be much smaller and lighter than today's hypersonic direct-flow jet engines. Flying with him through half the world without refueling looks quite real. But this is definitely not the prospect of the near future. The prototype only demonstrates the efficiency of the technology. The appearance of a full-fledged engine in China is not yet promising.
China-Europe trains are breaking records in 2021: there are already more than 2,000 of them!
Since the beginning of 2021, the number of China-China-Europe trains has reached 2,093, which is 101% more than in the same period of 2020.
2093 trains carried 198 thousand #TEU, which is 111% more than last year.
#China #Railway Group has optimized the organization of China-Europe freight trains and continues to increase capacity for them. Trains with various products for export in 2021 departed from Wuhan, Tianjin, Xi'an, Guangdong Province and other places.
Since the beginning of the year, they have also transported a lot of anti-epidemic materials, delivering them to European countries in a timely manner, which has become the main alternative in the face of difficulties with other modes of transport.
Trains China - Europe continued the trend of 2020, when the number of rolling stock reached 12,406, which is 50% more than in 2019, the volume of traffic increases from year to year.
The state operator Ukrzaliznytsia expects an increase in the flow of transit trains from China to European countries moving in transit through Ukraine. By the end of the year, their frequency may be up to 1 warehouse per day, said the director of the branch of UZ CTS "Liski" Edwin Berzins at the conference "Ukrainian Railways: Development and Investment".
"We started with one train a week. Now we can say two trains a week. During the year, their number will grow. And at the end of the year, I think there will be one train in transit per day, "said the branch director.
Ukraine has been actively developing the transit of containers from China to Europe by rail since 2020. During this time, UZ together with carriers from other countries has established the movement of trains on two routes.
On the first of them "China - Mongolia - Russia - Ukraine - Hungary / Slovakia" in 11 months passed 21 trains with 1864 containers in twenty-foot equivalent (TFE). On the second route "China - Kazakhstan - Russia - Ukraine - Slovakia / Hungary / Poland" there were 34 trains carrying 3130 containers.
Also, from July 2020, direct trains from China started arriving in Ukraine for the first time. In total, by the end of the year there were 22. And since the beginning of 2021 at the station CTS "Liski" received 15 trains from China, said Edwin Berzins.
"All countries participating in the corridors between China and Europe see in all their strategic documents an increase of 15% and 25% per year in the transit of goods. It follows that the whole corridor must work, "he said.
At the same time, Edwin Berzins notes that now "it is important to create a return flow that would transit from the EU to China."
